The IRT301 measures surface temperature using either of two methods:

• Non-contact: Using an IR thermometer with a laser pointer. Measurements can be
  adjusted for the emissivity of the surface, increasing the accuracy of readings.
• Contact: Using a "K" type thermocouple with a measurement range of -4 to 500°F (included in the package).
  The instrument automatically records up to 100 temperature readings that can be
  later recalled. During a single scanning session, the IRT301 simultaneously displays real-time
  measurements on a primary readout and the maximum, minimum, average, or the
  largest difference between measurements during that session on a secondary readout.
